💫Self-compassion is linked to success
We share studies that prove it and 4 tips to actually do it
Do you ever just feel… overwhelmed?
I don’t know about you, but I am guessing some days you too are overwhelmed by the influx of political, climate, economic, and social concerns. Not to mention work, family, and maybe even aging parent responsibilities. This is the decade of disruption and each day seems to bring more uncertainty. And, as a parent or educator, you probably also take on the worries and responsibilities of your kids. And how can we model the behavior we want in our kids if we aren’t feeling strong ourselves?
I don’t mean to be a downer, but let’s talk about the value of taking care of ourselves so we can care for others, achieve our goals, and thrive in life.
It’s easier said than done and is more than just a 5-minute peppermint mocha coffee break (or fill in your beverage of choice).
Studies show that self-compassion is linked to a high level of success.
And when we say success, we mean feeling a sense of accomplishment and confidence in your life and in work. Success is achieving goals that lead to wellbeing and satisfaction.
One of the evidence-based exercises we share in The Positivity Toolbox, for kids and their caregivers and educators, and in the Monumental Me Reset Program for adults, is as simple as connecting with a good friend. Nurturing Relationships is proven to enhance your wellbeing and resilience.
Self-compassion is just learning to be that same supportive friend to yourself.
We also have a section on self-care, and for kids, we called this Taking Care of Your Body.
We encourage you to take these learnings and to treat yourself with unconditional love and positive support. And we share HOW to do this unbelievably tricky thing in our short and sweet 6-minute podcast.
We have 4 tips that complement the specific activities in these chapters you already have in your archive for the Toolbox.
For example, did you know that self-compassion is the opposite of self-criticism and we can disrupt the tendency to criticise ourselves by flipping our self-talk?
🎙Our co-creator Michele Mavi has the tips, shared in conversation with me. You can find that 6-minute conversation full of helpful nuggets on The Mindshare Podcast. Listen by clicking the link or image below, or search on The Mindshare Podcast with Liana Slater & Michele Mavi.
